We’re on the hunt to find the most innovative idea to reclaim and upcycle resources that would usually be deemed useless at the end of their life.

We want you, the next generation of innovators and changemakers, to challenge yourself to think outside of the box and challenge the way people think about waste as a resource.

To enter the challenge you need to come up with an amazing idea to pitch that uses the theme Waste as a Resource.

We want to see your invention, initiative or idea be born and taken to its limit with no barriers stopping your creativity! In accordance with Australian curriculum standards, we’ve created some great templates, worksheets and information packs to get you started. Find these over at UPskill, our learning resource hub (COMING SOON).

Frequently Asked Questions.

The UPvention Challenge is open to Australian Primary School students in Years 3-6 in 2021. Entries can be submitted by students in groups of 2-4, the year level needs to be specified when entering the competition.

Schools must allocate a contact (teacher/leader) for their school upon registration to receive updates and resources in the lead up to the challenge. We’ll send out any emails to the school contact.

We want to see a film clip no longer than two minutes. Simply upload your clip to youtube and provide us with the link in your submission. We’d love to see the content reflect student work, without too much adult input.

Also, make sure the content is your own, please avoid using copyrighted or trademarked content without permission. This will be checked upon entry!

Most importantly a consent form needs to be completed for each student who enters. This is the responsibility of the school or community group.

There are four categories for prizes. The overall winners in Year 3-4 and in Year 5-6, the Top Textile Upcycle UPvention, and the People’s Choice Award voted by our community.

The total prize pool valued at over $16,000 will be evenly distributed across the 4 categories.

Each group will receive:

Prizes to the value of $3,000 for each submission’s specified school or community group
Prizes to the value of $1,000 for each submission’s participants.
